The major news story in 1999 wasn’t that a civil trial brought on by King’s family presented evidence of the government’s complicit involvement in his assassination and a jury agreed and decided accordingly. No. The major news story of that year was that the digital clocks we relied on to keep our infrastructures of ones and zeroes in step with our make-believe notion of time might break down and cause our society to collapse. It was a non-story, in the end. But enough of a story still, to keep the public occupied and unaware of King v. Jowers.
